For many years, the National Association of Enabling Educators of Australia (NAEEA) has brought together educators, researchers and practitioners committed to expanding access to higher education. Founded on the belief that education should be accessible to everyone with the desire to learn, the Association has grown into a respected national voice for Enabling education.
Throughout its history, NAEEA has supported collaboration between universities, championed evidence-informed practice and created opportunities for members to share knowledge through conferences, research, professional development and special interest groups. These initiatives have helped shape practice across Australia while strengthening a vibrant community of professionals united by a common purpose.
As Australia’s higher education landscape has evolved, so too has the role of Enabling education. Universities have increasingly recognised the importance of pathways that support students from diverse educational, social and cultural backgrounds. Mature-age learners, First Nations students, regional and remote communities, students living with disability, first-in-family university students and many others have all benefited from programs designed to build confidence, academic capability and a genuine sense of belonging.
NAEEA has been proud to stand alongside these developments, advocating for recognition of Enabling education as an essential contributor to student equity and success. Through research, partnerships and sector leadership, the Association continues to highlight the significant impact that Enabling educators have on learners and institutions alike.
Looking ahead, NAEEA remains committed to supporting members through collaboration, innovation and professional learning. As new technologies, changing student expectations and evolving policy continue to shape higher education, the Association will continue providing a forum for ideas, research and shared experience.
